I’m probably the only person in this entire universe with all its galaxies & black holes who considers Blonde Redhead’s Penny Sparkle to be the best 2010 album. I mean, sure, 2011 was a great year for music, but I’m so attached to this album, and I much rather rave about it. They’re the only artists/group that I listen to who see and acknowledge the path to fame, and decide to happily stray away from it. They remind me of Radiohead; they live in their own universe.
It’s hard to describe why I really like this album, but -luckily!- I’m a person who love to draw comparisons: Blonde Redhead albums are the equivalent of Metroid games (sans the atrocious Other M). They try to engulf you with an overly extreme sense of melancholy and despair and, for a lack of a better word, tragedy. It feels like all the sadness in the world is compressed into their crafts. And I just love it.
You can’t put a finger on what makes an album so good. Really, pinpointing emotions for the sake of it is silly, and I rather not delve into this path. It may even link to the fact that I cherish the art of sadness and therefore find this album -in particular- so mesmerizing. But I do, and it takes me to places no other album could ever dream to achieve.
You probably won’t like it. It’s slow and subtle, and requires a long attention span to fully grasp and appreciate it. But, when it clicks, and it will eventually, you’ll thank me. My favorites are Penny Sparkle and Spain.
حضرت قبل عدة أيام معرض ألعاب الفيديو TGXPO في الرياض، وهو أول معرض من True Gaming إدارةً وتنظيم. في الحقيقة لا أستطيع التعبير عن سعادتي الجمّة لحضوري المعرض، القرار الذي اتخذته قبل بدء المعرض بأيام معدودة. كوني شخص يحب ألعاب الفيديو ويعتبرها هواية فنية ذات أبعاد عديدة، أفتخر بالجهد المبذول في المعرض، وأفتخر أنه الأول من نوعه في المنطقة تنظيماً حيث أشرف عليه موقع ترو جيمنج، أحد مواقع ألعاب الفيديو الرائدة في مجالها.
ليس المعرض الأول من نوعه في السعودية، ولكنه أول معرض يحمل إسم ترو جيمنج، وأول معرض إحترافي يقيمه. بالإضافة إلى وجود ألعاب لم تصدر بعد وقابلة للتجربة، من مثل Mario Kart 7 و Street Fighter vs. Tekken، كانت المفاجأة أن Akira Yamaoka هو ضيف الشرف لهذا المعرض! شخصياً أعتبرها المفاجأة الأكبر في هذا المعرض؛ أكيرا ياماأوكا هو مبتكر وملحن سلسلة الرعب النفسي Silent Hill وحضوره لمعرض ألعاب في السعودية قد يكون تأكيد نهائي لشركات الألعاب بأن اللاعب العربي موجود وليس خفي.
في لحظة وصولي الفندق، قام كلاً من ثامر الغامدي ومشعل الصويان مشكوران بتوصيلي إلى غرفة الإعلاميين لمقابلة أكيرا بشكل فردي، وهو أمر أسعدني كثيراً ولم أكن أتوقعه على الإطلاق. تواضعه ملفت للنظر وهو أحد الشخصيات التي لم تصاب بعمى الشهرة، حيث أبدى سعادته مراراً لمقابلة معجبيه. في الليلة الأخيرة ذهبنا مع أكيرا للبر، ومع أحاديثنا المتبادلة عرفت أن Silent Hill 2 هي عمله المفضّل موسيقياً، وقال أنه معجب بموسيقى لعبة Red Dead Redemption، وفلمه المفضل هو Schindler’s List. أخبرني أنه يعمل على ألبوم منفصل سيصدر في ٢٠١٢ (ألبوم منفرد غير مقترن بلعبة).
سافرت كثيراً هذا العام، ولكن رحلة الرياض رحلة لا تنسى بشكل خاص لأنني قابلت أصدقاء لطالما تمنيت أن ألتقي بهم، من مثل حازم الحربي وعبدالعزيز الحميدي وثامر الغامدي ومشعل الصويان ومحمد النشار، واللائحة تطول. شكراً لكل من ساهم في جعل هذا المعرض كما هو عليه، وشكر أكبر لكل من اقتطع من وقته ولو قليلاً لي. تشرفت بمقابلة الجميع وأتمنى أن أكرر هذه الرحلة في فرصة قريبة.
